About

I am trying to earn a higher interest rate at a reasonable risk level using P2P lending services. I am using peer-to-peer lending sites Prosper.com and Lending Club. Before I started lending, I sought and compiled advice for new P2P lenders.

Poll Results: Lending Club will Survive

New here? You may want to subscribe to the RSS feed or browse the site map. Thanks!

A few months ago, I posted a poll asking readers if Lending Club would survive the quiet period. Readers believe by a large margin (31 votes to 11 votes) that Lending Club will survive the quiet period.

I hope that Lending Club will survive as is. I like the P2P lending platform that they built and so far my Lending Club P2P loans are still performing great. Although, I do have my fingers crossed on the loan that was late temporarily.

Internet Reduced Insurance Rates: Similar Impact on Loans?

While browsing for articles for an academic project, I decided to browse academic journals for articles on Prosper Marketplace and related interest rates. I thought someone must have published in a peer reviewed journal something on Prosper, but I did not find any existing articles outside of newspaper fluff pieces on P2P lending.

I broadened the search for other industries and the impact that the internet has made on rates. I found an article with empirical proof that the internet lowered Read the rest of this entry »

Added Another $500 to My Lending Club Account

Per the results of my recent people’s choice investment poll, I have added another $500 to my Lending Club account. The screen shot is below shows the addition and I will blog about the loans selected once the money is added to the account. I must admit that due to the income tax treatment of P2P loans and my initial review of Lending Club, I had hoped for other results. However, I put it to a vote and I will accept the results.

Poll Results: Investing Next $500 with Lending Club

According to the poll conducted with the readers of Personal Loan Portfolio, I am investing my next $500 with Lending Club. Lending Club won 64% of the votes (28 votes), a clear majority versus Prosper.com’s 18 percent (8 votes). Despite, my original conclusions that Lending Club is an inferior investment to the S&P 500, only six votes (including one of my own) selected the S&P 500. And Zopa was even further behind in the voting with only 2 votes. As an aside, I must report that I had one Harvard Business School voter who voted for Lending Club.

Update: Can Lending Club can beat the S&P 500 with this “Thank You” bonus?
